Den ligger omkring\u202f110 ljus\u00e5r fr\u00e5n jorden och kretsar runt den unga stj\u00e4rnan TWA\u202f7, som bara \u00e4r omkring 6 miljoner \u00e5r gammal \u2013 en stj\u00e4rna j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med v\u00e5rt 4,5 miljarder \u00e5r gamla solsystem. JWST bild var m\u00f6jlig tack vare ett fransktillverkat coronograf-verktyg kopplat till Webbs MIRI-instrument, som effektivt skymmer stj\u00e4rnans bl\u00e4ndande ljus och framh\u00e4ver den svaga planeten bakom.<br><br><strong>Vad g\u00f6r denna uppt\u00e4ckt s\u00e5 speciell?<\/strong><br>TWA\u202f7\u202fb \u00e4r den l\u00e4ttaste exoplanet n\u00e5gonsin som avbildats direkt; cirka tio g\u00e5nger l\u00e4ttare \u00e4n tidigare rekordh\u00e5llare. Den syns direkt i ett gap i ett stoft, och gasmoln som omger TWA\u202f7, en typisk struktur d\u00e4r planeter slingrar sig fram genom sin f\u00f6delsemilj\u00f6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Observationer av s\u00e5dana &#8221;shepherd&#8221;-planeter har l\u00e4nge varit teoretiska, men nu har vi \u00e4ntligen visuell bekr\u00e4ftelse. Samtidigt visar Webb upp sin f\u00f6rm\u00e5ga att se sm\u00e5 och svaga himlakroppar p\u00e5 stora avst\u00e5nd, vilket \u00e4r ett viktigt steg mot att kunna avbilda \u00e4nnu mindre och kanske beboeliga planeter i framtiden.<br><br><strong>Lite sp\u00e4nnande bakgrund<\/strong><br>Planetens bana ligger omkring 52 g\u00e5nger l\u00e4ngre ut \u00e4n jordens avst\u00e5nd till solen, vilket antyder en omloppstid p\u00e5 flera hundra \u00e5r. Den \u00e4r fortfarande varm; gl\u00f6dande av v\u00e4rmen fr\u00e5n sin nyligen avslutade f\u00f6delse, med en temperatur runt 45\u202f\u00b0C. Detta \u00e4r ovanligt f\u00f6r en gasj\u00e4tte s\u00e5 l\u00e5ngt fr\u00e5n sin stj\u00e4rna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Webb \u00e4r placerat vid Lagrangepunkt\u202f2, cirka 1,5 miljoner kilometer bort fr\u00e5n jorden, en stabil position som m\u00f6jligg\u00f6r dess k\u00e4nsliga infrar\u00f6da observationer. Den stora 6,5-meterspegeln, resultatet av ett internationellt samarbete mellan NASA, ESA och CSA, m\u00f6jligg\u00f6r enast\u00e5ende inblickar i universums mest sv\u00e5r\u00e5tkomliga delar.<br><br><strong>Vad v\u00e4ntar nu?<\/strong><br>Detta \u00e4r bara b\u00f6rjan. Webb \u00e4r nu bevisat kapabel att uppt\u00e4cka ofattbart svaga, sm\u00e5 och kalla planeter \u2013 potentiellt jordliknande planeter i beboeliga zoner. TWA\u202f7\u202fb pekar v\u00e4gen mot framtidens m\u00e5l: att avbilda v\u00e4rldar d\u00e4r liv kan existera, och att analysera deras atmosf\u00e4rer f\u00f6r tecken p\u00e5 till exempel vatten\u00e5nga eller syre. Den franska coronografens framg\u00e5ng banar v\u00e4g f\u00f6r framtida observatorier som Habitable Worlds Observatory, planerat till 2040-talet.<br><br>Uppt\u00e4ckten av\u202fTWA\u202f7\u202fb \u00e4r mer \u00e4n en vetenskaplig triumf, det \u00e4r ett bevis p\u00e5 att m\u00e4nskligheten \u00e4r redo att ta n\u00e4sta steg i s\u00f6kandet efter liv bortom jorden.
